La Vue Rooftop Bar Jakarta Review: Sky-High Views Meet Intimate Vibes in Central Jakarta's Hidden Gem
When you climb to the 9th floor of One particularly nice touch: during our Saturday visit, the server brought the bill folder with two small complimentary chocolate truffles, a sweet gesture that left a positive final impression.
The only minor inconvenience we noted was during our busiest visit when it took nearly 15 minutes to get our server's attention to request the bill. Once flagged down, the process was quick, but that initial delay was frustrating when we were ready to leave.
Exit Process ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Leaving La Vue is as smooth as arriving. There's no complicated checkout procedure, no mandatory coat check to retrieve, no confusing navigation through multiple floors or locked doors.
Once you've settled your bill, you're free to leave at your leisure. Staff don't rush you out even as closing time approaches, which we appreciated. During our Wednesday visit, we lingered until 10:45 PM (15 minutes before closing) finishing drinks and soaking in the view, and never felt pressured to hurry.
The elevator is easily accessible from the rooftop level, with clear signage pointing the way. During our five visits, we never waited more than two minutes for an elevator, even during busy times.
Staff farewells were consistently warm and genuine. Multiple servers and hosts thanked us for visiting and expressed hope we'd return. These weren't scripted corporate sign-offs; they felt sincere.
Exiting the hotel lobby and retrieving vehicles (or calling Grab/Gojek) is straightforward. Hotel security remained professional and courteous during departures. During our Saturday visit when we called a Grab, the front desk staff helped us coordinate the pickup location, which was helpful.
One small bonus: the hotel lobby restrooms are easily accessible on your way out if needed, saving you from navigating back up to the rooftop facilities.
Social Media ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
La Vue's social media presence is decent but could be stronger. Their Instagram account @lavuerooftopbar posts regularly, typically 2-3 times per week, featuring sunset shots, cocktail close-ups, food presentations, and view photography.
Content quality is good. Photos are professionally composed, well-lit, and aesthetically consistent. The visual identity skews warm tones and golden hour lighting, reinforcing the venue's romantic, sophisticated positioning.
However, engagement appears moderate. Posts typically receive 100-300 likes and limited comments. Stories get some views but don't seem to generate massive buzz. For comparison, larger Jakarta rooftop venues like Henshin or SKYE have significantly higher engagement despite La Vue's competitive quality.
The account does respond to comments and direct messages, which we tested. We sent an inquiry via Instagram DM about booking and received a response within 3 hours during business hours. Follow-up questions were answered promptly and helpfully.
What's missing is more dynamic content. The feed feels static, primarily showing pretty images without much storytelling, behind-the-scenes content, staff features, or guest highlights. More video content, especially Instagram Reels showcasing the sunset views or cocktail preparation, could boost engagement significantly.
Facebook presence exists but feels like an afterthought, with less frequent updates and even lower engagement than Instagram. TikTok appears nonexistent, which might be fine given the target demographic skews older than TikTok's core users.
The venue could leverage user-generated content more effectively. Multiple guests we observed were photographing their experience extensively. Reposting guest photos, running contests, or creating hashtag campaigns could build community and expand reach organically.
Transportation ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
Getting to and from La Vue is generally convenient thanks to Jakarta's ride-hailing infrastructure. Grab and Gojek pickups work smoothly from The Hermitage entrance. During our five visits, we used Grab four times without issues. Wait times averaged 5-8 minutes, and drivers found the location easily using the hotel address.
The Menteng location is centrally positioned, making travel times manageable from most Jakarta areas. As mentioned earlier, expect 15-25 minutes from popular areas like Senayan, Kemang, or Sudirman in light traffic, 25-40 minutes during peak hours.
Valet parking is available for those driving personal vehicles, priced at IDR 35,000 (approximately USD 2.30), which is reasonable. The valet system appeared efficient during our observations, with cars retrieved within 10 minutes of request.
Street parking exists in the surrounding Menteng neighborhood but finding spots can be challenging, especially on weekend evenings. We don't recommend this option unless you're familiar with the area.
Public transportation options are limited. The nearest TransJakarta bus stop is several blocks away, requiring a walk that isn't particularly pleasant at night. MRT access requires taking a taxi or ride-hailing from the nearest station. La Vue is fundamentally a car/ride-hailing destination rather than a public transit-friendly venue.
Taxi availability is decent, though Grab and Gojek are more reliable and typically cheaper. Traditional blue and white taxis will pick up from the hotel entrance, but availability varies by time of day.
One consideration for international visitors: arrange your pickup transportation before getting too intoxicated. Jakarta's ride-hailing apps require Indonesian phone numbers for registration. Some hotels can help order rides for guests, so check with your concierge if needed.
Walking is feasible only if you're staying at The Hermitage itself or one of the very few hotels within the immediate Menteng vicinity. The neighborhood is generally safe but isn't designed for pedestrian nightlife hopping.
The venue's location doesn't facilitate bar-hopping efficiently. If your evening plan involves hitting multiple venues, factor in 20-30 minutes travel time between La Vue and other popular nightlife areas.
Other/General Comments
What Worked Brilliantly:
- The 360-degree panoramic Jakarta skyline view is genuinely spectacular and unique among the city's rooftop venues
- Service staff are consistently warm, professional, attentive, and genuinely hospitable rather than going through corporate motions
- The intimate scale creates a sophisticated atmosphere that never feels overcrowded or chaotic, even when full
- Smart casual dress code and mature crowd eliminate the aggressive party-bro energy found at many Jakarta nightlife venues
- No entrance fee or cover charge makes the venue accessible for dropping in for drinks without major financial commitment
- Payment flexibility including credit cards, cash, and QRIS mobile payments covers all visitor needs
- Afternoon free-flow sparkling wine promotion offers genuine value and extends the venue's appeal beyond evening-only visits
- Location in Menteng provides both great views and relatively manageable travel times from most Jakarta areas
What Needs Improvement:
- Booking process remains unnecessarily complicated without streamlined online reservation system showing seating options and minimum spends upfront
- Food portion sizes are disappointingly small relative to prices, making La Vue feel expensive for what you receive
- Live music volume control is inconsistent, sometimes becoming too loud for the intimate setting and preventing comfortable conversation
- Limited capacity means walk-ins are frequently turned away during peak times, frustrating spontaneous visitors
- Smoking is permitted throughout the rooftop and can be bothersome for non-smokers, especially when seated downwind
- Social media presence and marketing are too understated, making the venue difficult to discover for tourists researching Jakarta nightlife
- Curated music playlist on non-entertainment nights features jarring genre jumps that disrupt the carefully crafted ambiance
- Cocktail recipes show execution inconsistency across different staff shifts, with the same drink varying noticeably in quality
Our Pro Tips from 5 Visits:
Book at least 48-72 hours ahead for weekend sunset visits (Friday-Saturday between 5:30-7:00 PM). These time slots fill fast, and walk-ins are routinely rejected. Weekday evenings have more availability but booking is still recommended.
Arrive 15-20 minutes before sunset (around 5:40-5:50 PM) during the dry season, 5:50-6:00 PM during rainy season to secure your spot and settle in before the golden hour show begins. The view transforms dramatically during this window.
Request seating on the upper rooftop level rather than poolside area if views are your priority. The upper level provides superior 360-degree panoramic sightlines, while the lower poolside area has partially obstructed views despite being comfortable.
Order the pizza (IDR 165,000++) if you're hungry. It's consistently the best-executed food item we tested and offers better value per rupiah than most other dishes. The Salami pizza especially impressed.
Take advantage of the afternoon free-flow sparkling wine promotion (IDR 388,000++ per person, 3-6 PM daily) if you enjoy Prosecco. The quality is decent, pours are generous, and it's one of the few genuinely good-value options at La Vue.
Bring a light jacket or pashmina, especially during rainy season or if visiting during evening hours. The open-air rooftop can get breezy, and temperatures drop as night progresses. We saw several guests looking cold during our visits.
Position yourself upwind if possible to minimize smoke exposure from other guests' cigarettes. Pay attention to wind direction when selecting seats. The southeast corner typically has better air circulation.
Download Grab and Gojek apps before arriving in Jakarta if you're an international visitor. You'll need an Indonesian phone number for registration. Arrange this at your hotel or airport to ensure reliable transportation home after drinks.
Avoid ordering multiple small plates if you're actually hungry. The cumulative cost adds up quickly while portions remain tiny. Better to order one substantial main or pizza plus drinks rather than grazing through expensive appetizers.
Visit on Wednesday or Thursday evenings for the best balance of atmosphere, entertainment, and availability. Weekends are busier and more expensive (higher minimum spends), while weeknights offer a more relaxed experience with slightly less competition for prime seating.
Our Overall Opinion of La Vue Rooftop Bar
After evaluating La Vue across 17 categories over five visits spanning three months, we awarded it an overall score of 3.7 out of 5 stars (74%), placing it in the "Very Good" tier of Jakarta's competitive rooftop bar scene. This rating reflects a venue that does several things exceptionally well while wrestling with some notable limitations.
La Vue's greatest strengths are undeniable. The 360-degree panoramic view is genuinely world-class, offering sightlines across Jakarta's diverse landscape that few venues can match. The intimate scale creates an atmosphere that feels special and sophisticated rather than generic or overcrowded. Service quality consistently impresses, with staff demonstrating genuine hospitality that elevates the entire experience. The lack of entrance fees and accessible pricing for bar seating (as opposed to minimum spend areas) keeps the venue from feeling exclusionary despite its upscale positioning.
However, the venue falters in ways that prevent it from reaching elite status. The booking process remains frustratingly antiquated for a modern upscale venue in 2024, forcing guests to message, call, or use third-party platforms rather than offering streamlined online reservations. Food portions are disappointingly stingy relative to prices, creating a sense that you're paying significant premiums for Instagram-worthy presentations rather than satisfying portions. Live entertainment volume control shows inconsistency that sometimes disrupts the otherwise carefully crafted ambiance. And the limited capacity, while contributing to intimacy, means spontaneous visits frequently end in disappointment.
The smoking situation deserves special mention as a potential dealbreaker for some visitors. Indonesia's permissive smoking culture means cigarettes are lit freely throughout the rooftop, and while the open-air setting helps, it's still noticeable and occasionally bothersome. If you're particularly sensitive to smoke, La Vue may prove frustrating despite its other appeals.
That said, La Vue succeeds brilliantly at what it fundamentally sets out to be: an intimate, view-focused rooftop destination perfect for dates, small celebrations, and sophisticated evenings that prioritize conversation and atmosphere over high-energy partying. It's not trying to compete with the mega-clubs or the trendy expat bars. It occupies a distinct niche, and for visitors seeking exactly what it offers, the experience can feel magical.
The venue's positioning in Menteng adds significant value beyond the rooftop itself. Unlike venues buried in commercial districts or touristy zones, La Vue sits amid one of Jakarta's most interesting neighborhoods, adding context and character to the experience. The mature, international crowd further distinguishes it from venues that skew younger and rowdier.
Would we go back? Absolutely, but with strategic planning. La Vue is a venue that rewards advance booking, thoughtful timing (aim for sunset), and realistic expectations about food. Approach it as a drinks-and-view destination where food is supplementary rather than central, book 48-72 hours ahead for weekends, and you're likely to have an excellent evening.
Who is La Vue perfect for?
- Couples seeking romantic sunset views and intimate atmosphere for dates or anniversaries
- Mature travelers (30+) who prefer sophisticated conversation over pounding EDM and crowded dancefloors
- International visitors looking for a cosmopolitan rooftop experience with English-speaking staff and diverse crowds
- Small friend groups (2-4 people) celebrating special occasions in upscale settings
- Expats living in Jakarta who want a go-to spot for impressive but not over-the-top client or friend entertainment
- Hotel guests at The Hermitage looking for convenient, high-quality rooftop access without traveling across the city
- Sunset photography enthusiasts seeking Instagram-worthy Jakarta skyline shots
Who might want to skip La Vue?
- Party animals seeking high-energy clubs with dancing, DJs playing EDM or hip-hop, and late-night (past midnight) action
- Budget-conscious travelers for whom IDR 145,000++ cocktails and small-portion food represent prohibitive expense
- Large groups (6+ people) who may struggle with seating coordination and minimum spend requirements
- Spontaneous visitors who dislike planning ahead, as walk-ins are frequently rejected during popular times
- Non-smokers who are particularly sensitive to cigarette smoke in open-air settings
- Visitors seeking substantial dinner experiences, as La Vue's kitchen is better suited to snacking than full meals
- Young travelers (early 20s) who might find the mature crowd and sophisticated vibe somewhat staid
FAQs About La Vue Rooftop Bar
What's the dress code at La Vue, and is it strictly enforced?
The official dress code is smart casual, which means clean jeans or chinos with collared shirts for men, and stylish casual dresses or dressy tops with nice pants or skirts for women. Flip-flops, athletic wear, tank tops, and very casual beachwear are discouraged. During our five visits, we observed the dress code being enforced relatively loosely. The upscale hotel setting and pricing naturally filter the crowd, so most guests self-select into appropriate attire. We didn't witness anyone being turned away for dress code violations, though we also didn't see anyone testing the boundaries with overly casual clothing. When in doubt, err on the side of dressing slightly more formally rather than risking issues at the door.
How much should I budget for an evening at La Vue?
Budget expectations depend heavily on your group size and consumption habits. For cocktails and drinks only without minimum spend requirements, expect IDR 145,000-180,000 per cocktail after taxes (roughly USD 9-12), IDR 90,000-120,000 for beers, and IDR 160,000+ for wine by the glass. A couple having 2-3 drinks each without food might spend IDR 600,000-900,000 (USD 40-60) total. If you're booking premium seating with minimum spends, expect IDR 1,000,000-1,500,000 depending on night and location, which can be met through food and beverage purchases. For a comfortable evening with good seating, drinks, and snacks, budget IDR 400,000-600,000 per person (USD 25-40).
What music and entertainment should I expect?
La Vue features DJs on Wednesdays and Fridays playing deep house, lounge, nu-disco, and chill electronic music. Thursdays and Saturdays showcase live music including acoustic duos and solo performers covering popular Western and Indonesian songs in jazzy arrangements. The volume is generally kept at conversation-friendly levels, though our Thursday live music experience saw the volume gradually increase to somewhat intrusive levels by 9 PM. On nights without scheduled entertainment, the venue plays curated playlists that lean toward mature, sophisticated selections. Don't expect EDM, heavy bass, hip-hop, or party anthems. The musical programming targets guests in their late 20s through 50s seeking atmosphere rather than dance-floor energy.
Is La Vue suitable for large groups or events?
The venue's intimate scale makes it challenging for large groups. The rooftop capacity is roughly 40-50 people comfortably when full, and seating configurations primarily suit parties of 2-4, with some areas accommodating 6-8. Groups larger than 8-10 people would likely need to split across multiple tables, potentially in different sections. For private events or large celebrations, you'd likely need to book the entire venue or a substantial portion, which would require direct negotiation with management well in advance. For most visitors, La Vue works best for couples, double dates, or small friend groups rather than big birthday parties or corporate gatherings.
Can I visit La Vue without a reservation?
Technically yes, but we strongly discourage walking in without reservations during peak times. The limited capacity means available seating fills quickly, especially during sunset hours (5:30-7:30 PM) and weekend evenings (Friday-Saturday). During our Friday sunset visit, we watched staff turn away multiple groups who arrived without bookings. The venue was full with no available seating. Weekday afternoons and late evenings (after 9 PM) offer better walk-in chances, but even then, you're gambling on availability. If La Vue is a priority visit during your Jakarta trip, book 48-72 hours ahead to guarantee entry. Spontaneous visits work best during off-peak times like Sunday-Tuesday afternoons or weeknight late evenings.
What's the best time to visit for sunset views?
Sunset timing in Jakarta varies by season but generally falls between 5:45-6:15 PM. We recommend arriving 15-20 minutes before the sun actually sets to secure your spot, order drinks, and settle in before the golden hour show begins. During the dry season (June-September), aim for 5:40-5:50 PM arrival. During the rainy season (November-March), sunset occurs slightly later, so 5:50-6:00 PM works well. The view transforms dramatically during the 45-minute window from golden hour through blue hour as the sky transitions and Jakarta's city lights begin glowing. Arrive too late and you miss the progression; arrive too early and you're waiting around while paying premium prices for drinks.
Is La Vue child-friendly or adults-only?
La Vue doesn't explicitly ban children, but the atmosphere, pricing, and target audience make it essentially an adult-oriented venue. During our five visits spanning different days and times, we saw exactly zero children or families with young kids. The sophisticated ambiance, cocktail focus, smoking prevalence, and lack of kid-friendly food options naturally discourage families. Additionally, the open rooftop design with waist-high railings could raise safety concerns for parents with young children. Teenagers might be acceptable during afternoon hours, but the venue really targets adults 25+. If you're traveling with kids and seeking family-friendly dining with views, you'd be better served by restaurant rooftops rather than bar-focused venues like La Vue.
How does La Vue compare to other Jakarta rooftop bars?
La Vue occupies a distinct niche in Jakarta's rooftop scene. Compared to massive venues like SKYE or Henshin (which accommodate hundreds), La Vue feels intimate and boutique-like with its 40-50 person capacity. The 360-degree view rivals or exceeds competitors, as many rooftops offer views in only one or two directions. Pricing sits in the middle range, less expensive than the ultra-premium venues but more costly than neighborhood bars. The crowd skews more mature and sophisticated than party-focused venues. Service quality exceeds most competitors we've experienced. The main trade-offs are capacity limitations (harder to get in), food portions (smaller than alternatives), and entertainment scale (no big-name DJs or elaborate production). If you want intimacy, views, and sophistication, La Vue excels. If you want large-scale energy, extensive food menus, or walk-in flexibility, larger venues serve better.
Are there any promotions or happy hour deals?
La Vue's most notable promotion is their afternoon free-flow sparkling wine offering, priced at IDR 388,000++ per person for 2 hours between 3-6 PM daily. We tested this during our Sunday visit and found it genuinely good value. The Prosecco quality was decent, pours were generous, and our server refilled glasses attentively without making us flag her down constantly. Beyond this core promotion, the venue occasionally runs special event pricing, themed nights, or cocktail deals, but these aren't consistently scheduled or heavily advertised. Information about current promotions requires following their Instagram (@lavuerooftopbar) or asking staff directly when booking. Don't expect aggressive happy hour deals or two-for-one specials. The pricing model focuses on quality and experience rather than volume discounting.
What's the smoking situation, and can non-smokers be comfortable?
Smoking is permitted throughout La Vue's rooftop, reflecting Indonesia's permissive smoking culture. During all five of our visits, we observed numerous guests smoking cigarettes freely. The open-air setting helps disperse smoke better than enclosed spaces, and wind direction matters significantly. If you position yourself upwind, smoke exposure is minimal. Downwind positioning means smoke drifts toward you more noticeably. During our Saturday visit, one couple we interviewed from California (where smoking bans are strict) were visibly bothered by surrounding smoke and left earlier than planned. Non-smokers can absolutely visit and enjoy La Vue, but you should be aware cigarette smoke is present and occasionally bothersome depending on your sensitivity and seating position. There's no designated non-smoking section or smoke-free zones.
How should I book, and how far in advance?
The most efficient booking method we discovered is WhatsApp using the number listed on La Vue's Instagram account (@lavuerooftopbar). Response times are typically 2-4 hours during business hours, and staff explain available seating options, minimum spends, and confirm your reservation clearly. You can also book through Chope (restaurant reservation platform), though the system doesn't show specific seating details upfront and requires waiting for venue confirmation. Phone reservations work but require navigating through The Hermitage Hotel's main switchboard menu. For peak times (Friday-Saturday 5:30-8:00 PM), book 48-72 hours minimum in advance. Weekday evenings accept shorter notice, sometimes 24 hours, though earlier is always safer. Sunday-Thursday afternoons offer the most flexibility, occasionally accepting same-day bookings if capacity allows.
Is there a minimum stay time or maximum limit?
La Vue doesn't enforce minimum stay times or maximum limits. You're welcome to arrive, have one drink at the bar, enjoy the view for 30 minutes, and leave. Similarly, you can settle in for an entire evening from sunset through closing (11 PM) if you're ordering consistently. During our five visits, we stayed anywhere from 90 minutes to 3.5 hours without any pressure to leave or order more. The only implicit time pressure comes during very busy periods when staff might subtly indicate other guests are waiting, but this was never aggressive or uncomfortable. As closing time approaches (10:45-11:00 PM), staff begin subtle closing preparations but don't rush you out rudely. The venue's relatively early closing time (11 PM) naturally limits how late you can extend your visit.
Final Thoughts on La Vue Rooftop Bar
After spending five evenings at La Vue over three months, interviewing dozens of guests, and experiencing the venue across different days, times, and conditions, we came away with genuine appreciation for what it offers Jakarta's nightlife landscape. This isn't a venue trying to be everything to everyone. It's not chasing Instagram clout with over-the-top production value or celebrity DJ bookings. It's not attempting to pack in maximum capacity for maximum revenue. Instead, La Vue succeeds by focusing on specific strengths and serving a well-defined audience exceptionally well.
The 360-degree view remains the undeniable star. In a city with no shortage of rooftop venues, La Vue's panoramic sightlines across Jakarta's diverse landscape create genuinely memorable moments, especially during that magical sunset-to-twilight transition. Combined with the intimate scale, sophisticated atmosphere, and consistently excellent service, the venue delivers an experience that feels special without being pretentious or exclusive.
The limitations we documented throughout this review, particularly around booking complexity, small food portions, and capacity constraints, are real and sometimes frustrating. However, they're the kind of issues that informed visitors can plan around rather than fundamental flaws that ruin the experience. Book ahead, set realistic food expectations, arrive strategically for sunset, and you're positioned for an excellent evening.
For visitors to Jakarta seeking sophisticated rooftop experiences that prioritize views, conversation, and ambiance over high-energy partying, La Vue deserves serious consideration. It's not trying to compete with SKYE's scale or Henshin's celebrity cachet. It's simply offering something different: intimacy, accessibility, genuine hospitality, and world-class views in a package that feels authentic rather than manufactured.
Would we return during future Jakarta visits? Absolutely. La Vue has earned a spot on our list of reliable, quality venues that consistently deliver what they promise. Just remember to book ahead, arrive for sunset, order strategically, and embrace the sophisticated, mature vibe. The evening will take care of itself from there.

Overall Rating: 3.7/5 stars (Very Good) Hermitage Hotel in Menteng and step onto La Vue Rooftop Bar, you're greeted with something rare in Jakarta's high-rise jungle: a genuinely intimate rooftop experience with unobstructed 360-degree views of the city's ever-changing skyline. Our team spent five separate evenings at La Vue over a three-month period, catching everything from sunset golden hour to late-night sessions under the stars. We interviewed more than 35 guests during our visits, tested the cocktail menu extensively, and put every aspect of this venue through its paces. Here's the complete story on whether La Vue deserves a spot on your Jakarta nightlife itinerary.
Introduction: Getting to La Vue Rooftop Bar
La Vue Rooftop Bar sits atop The Hermitage, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel in the heart of Menteng, one of Jakarta's most affluent and historic neighborhoods. Menteng itself is a fascinating blend of Dutch colonial architecture, tree-lined streets, and upscale residential areas that feel worlds away from the chaos of SCBD or the touristy buzz of Kemang. This location gives La Vue a unique positioning in Jakarta's nightlife scene. It's not trying to compete with the massive mega-clubs or the trendy expat bars. Instead, it offers something different: sophistication without pretension, intimacy without stuffiness.
Getting there is straightforward if you're familiar with Jakarta's geography. The venue is located at Jl. Cilacap No. 1 in Menteng, Central Jakarta, roughly 15-20 minutes by Grab or Gojek from the Sudirman business district, 25 minutes from Kemang, and about 30 minutes from Senayan City area depending on traffic conditions. We found that leaving around 4:30 PM during weekdays meant hitting peak traffic, extending travel times by 10-15 minutes. Evening visits after 7 PM were smoother.
The hotel entrance is easy to spot with its boutique hotel aesthetic. Security at the gate is professional and thorough without being intrusive. They'll check vehicle undercarriages and ask about your destination. Once you're through, valet parking is available if you're driving your own vehicle. For Grab and Gojek users, drivers can drop you right at the lobby entrance. From there, take the elevator to the 9th floor and follow signs to La Vue. There's also staircase access from the 9th floor to reach the actual rooftop level.

Quick Verdict: La Vue Rooftop Bar delivers an intimate, view-focused rooftop experience perfect for dates and small group gatherings, with excellent service and solid cocktails, but held back by limited capacity, somewhat high prices for portion sizes, inconsistent live entertainment volume, and the challenge of securing prime seating without advance planning.
What Makes La Vue Rooftop Bar Special?
La Vue's defining characteristic is its remarkable 360-degree panoramic view of Jakarta. Unlike many rooftop venues that offer views in only one direction, La Vue wraps completely around the top of The Hermitage, giving you sightlines across Menteng's leafy residential areas, the Sudirman skyline's gleaming towers, and even glimpses of the old city in the distance. During our sunset visit on a Thursday evening, watching the sky transition from brilliant orange to deep purple while Jakarta's lights flickered on across the horizon felt genuinely special.
The venue is split across two levels. The lower level sits beside the hotel's stunning rooftop pool, featuring comfortable cushioned seating, lounge areas, and a more relaxed vibe. The upper rooftop deck is where the magic happens, though it's notably compact, accommodating roughly 40-50 people comfortably when full. This small capacity creates an intimate atmosphere that many guests we spoke with appreciated, but it also means booking ahead is essential for peak times.
Design-wise, La Vue keeps things elegantly simple. The furniture is contemporary without being overly trendy, predominantly featuring neutral tones with pops of color from cushions and plants. There's a covered section with overhead fans and an open-air area with bar seating right at the edge, offering the best views. The long bar stretches along one side of the rooftop, backlit and well-stocked, serving as both a functional space and an aesthetic focal point.
Our Review Breakdown for La Vue Rooftop Bar
Our team conducted five separate visits to La Vue between September and December 2024, including two weeknight visits (Wednesday and Thursday), two weekend nights (Friday and Saturday), and one Sunday sunset session. We brought different team members on each visit to get varied perspectives, tested various sections of the menu, spoke with more than 35 guests during our time there, and documented our experiences across all times of evening from the 4 PM opening through to closing at 11 PM.
Pre-Club Advertising ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
La Vue's social media presence is modest compared to Jakarta's bigger nightlife venues. Their Instagram account @lavuerooftopbar has around 12,000 followers, which isn't insignificant but pales compared to venues like Henshin or SKYE. Posts are consistent and aesthetically pleasing, focusing heavily on sunset shots, cocktail presentations, and the view. However, engagement appears moderate. We noticed posts typically get 100-300 likes, with limited comment interaction.
The venue doesn't seem to invest heavily in paid advertising or influencer partnerships. During our research phase, we struggled to find much information about La Vue beyond basic directory listings and hotel-affiliated content. This seems intentional rather than neglectful. La Vue appears to position itself as an insider's spot rather than chasing mass tourist appeal.
What they do well is leverage The Hermitage Hotel's Marriott affiliation and Tribute Portfolio branding. Hotel guests naturally discover the venue, and the hotel actively promotes it through in-room materials and front desk recommendations. We spoke with three couples during our visits who discovered La Vue through their hotel concierge rather than online research.
For tourists planning Jakarta trips, La Vue doesn't rank high in visibility. It rarely appears in "Top 10 Jakarta Rooftop Bars" listicles unless they're specifically comprehensive. This lower profile has both pros and cons. It keeps crowds manageable but also means many potential visitors never learn it exists.
The venue runs occasional promotions like their "Afternoon Bliss" free-flow sparkling wine deal (IDR 388,000++ per person for 2 hours, 3-6 PM daily) and weekend DJ events, but marketing for these feels subdued. Information about special events and happy hour deals exists but requires digging to find.
Location ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Location is one of La Vue's strongest assets. Menteng is a prestigious, safe, and interesting neighborhood that adds significant value to the experience. Unlike venues in busy commercial districts like SCBD where you're surrounded by high-rise office blocks, La Vue sits amid colonial-era mansions, tree-lined streets, and historic architecture. This gives the rooftop views more character and variety.
The area is centrally located, making it accessible from most parts of Jakarta without requiring marathon journeys through traffic. We timed our arrivals from various points: 20 minutes from Grand Indonesia mall in light traffic, 25 minutes from Senopati, 35 minutes from BSD (South Jakarta suburbs). Even during peak hours, travel times remained manageable compared to reaching venues in more congested areas.
Menteng itself is worth exploring before or after your visit. The neighborhood houses several notable restaurants, Jalan Surabaya's famous antique flea market, and beautiful colonial architecture. We walked around the area before our Thursday visit and found it pleasant, safe, and photogenic.
The only minor drawback is that Menteng doesn't have a concentrated nightlife scene like SCBD or Kemang. La Vue is more of a destination venue than part of a bar-hopping circuit. If you're planning an evening that involves hitting multiple spots, you'll need to factor in travel time to other areas.
Booking Process and Seating Options ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
This category reveals one of La Vue's more frustrating aspects. The booking process exists but isn't as streamlined as it should be for a venue of this caliber in 2024.
We tested multiple reservation methods. First, we tried the hotel's website, expecting an online booking system. The site acknowledged La Vue's existence but offered no direct booking functionality. We then turned to Chope, where La Vue does have a presence. The Chope booking system works, allowing you to select date, time, and party size. However, the platform doesn't show you specific seating options or their associated minimum spends upfront. You submit your request and then wait for the venue to contact you.
During our second booking attempt, we used WhatsApp, messaging the number listed on their Instagram. Response time was good (within 2 hours during business hours), and the staff member was helpful, explaining available seating options and minimum spends. This felt like the most efficient method, though having to message and wait for a response adds friction compared to instant online booking systems.
Phone reservations are also possible. We called once and reached a friendly staff member who spoke excellent English and patiently explained all our options. However, the hotel's main line routes you through several menu options before reaching La Vue specifically, which was mildly annoying.
Walk-ins are theoretically possible but risky, especially for sunset timing or weekend evenings. During our Friday visit at 6:30 PM, we watched the staff turn away two groups who hadn't reserved. The venue was full, and there was simply no space.
Seating options include regular dining tables in the poolside area (no minimum spend), bar stools and high tables on the main rooftop, lounge sofas, and corner tables. Minimum spends vary by location and night, ranging from IDR 1,000,000 to IDR 1,500,000 for premium lounge areas on weekends. The staff communicated these requirements clearly during booking but the information isn't readily available online, forcing you to inquire.
Entrance Fee, Cover, and Entry Process ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
La Vue deserves full marks here. There's no entrance fee or cover charge whatsoever, which is refreshing and customer-friendly. You're welcome to visit, grab a spot at the bar or in the dining area, order drinks or food, and enjoy the view without prepaying or committing to minimums unless you've specifically booked a premium seating area.
This accessible approach contrasts sharply with some Jakarta rooftop venues that charge covers or require minimum spends even for bar seating. We appreciate that La Vue keeps the barrier to entry low, allowing curious visitors to check out the venue without financial commitment.
The entry process is smooth. When you arrive at The Hermitage lobby, inform the front desk you're heading to La Vue. They'll direct you to the elevator and may note your party size if it's busy. Security is present but unobtrusive. During our five visits, we were never stopped, questioned, or made to feel unwelcome.
The only time we experienced a wait was during our Friday sunset visit when the elevator took a few minutes to arrive (the hotel was busy with check-ins). Once on the 9th floor, signage clearly points you toward La Vue, and staff members stationed at the entrance greet you warmly.
Dress code enforcement exists but is relaxed. We observed people in smart casual attire being welcomed without issue, while we didn't see anyone turned away for dress code violations during our visits. That said, guests generally dressed appropriately, suggesting either self-selection or effective communication of expectations.
Minimum Spend ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
Minimum spends at La Vue apply only to specific premium seating areas, primarily the comfortable lounge sofas and corner tables with the best views. During our research and bookings, we learned these minimums range from IDR 1,000,000 to IDR 1,500,000 depending on the day of the week and specific location.
These figures aren't outrageous by Jakarta upscale venue standards, but they're not cheap either. For context, that's roughly USD 65-100 at current exchange rates. Considering cocktails run IDR 120,000-150,000 and appetizers IDR 90,000-180,000, a group of four could reasonably hit a million rupiah minimum without much effort. However, for a couple on a date, meeting these minimums requires ordering more than you might naturally want.
The positive aspect is transparency. When we booked via WhatsApp, the staff clearly explained which areas had minimums and which didn't. They never pushed us toward premium seating when we indicated we just wanted to enjoy drinks at the bar.
The system does create a two-tier experience. Premium seating with minimums gets you the most comfortable spots with optimal views, while minimum-free areas (bar seating, some dining tables) offer less plush accommodations. During our Saturday visit, we initially sat at the bar then moved to a premium lounge area after another group left. The difference in comfort was significant. The lounge seating, with its cushioned sofas and low tables, felt perfect for an extended evening, while bar stools became uncomfortable after an hour.
One guest we interviewed, Marcus from Singapore, felt the minimum spend system was fair. He explained he was planning to spend that much anyway, so having it structured as a minimum didn't bother him. Another couple, Indonesian locals celebrating an anniversary, were less enthusiastic, feeling somewhat pressured to order more food than they wanted to hit their minimum.
Menu/Drinks Pricing ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
Pricing at La Vue sits firmly in the premium category without reaching ridiculous levels. Cocktails range from approximately IDR 120,000 to IDR 150,000++, which translates to roughly USD 8-10 before the 21% tax and service charge. After taxes, expect to pay around IDR 145,000-180,000 per cocktail.
By Jakarta rooftop bar standards, this is middle-of-the-pack. You'll pay similar or slightly more at places like SKYE or Henshin, while neighborhood bars in Kemang might charge IDR 80,000-100,000 for comparable drinks. The pricing reflects the venue's positioning: upscale but not exclusive.
Beer selection includes both local and imported options. Local beers like Bintang run around IDR 75,000++, while imported bottles climb to IDR 100,000-120,000++. Wine by the glass starts around IDR 130,000++, with bottles ranging from IDR 600,000 to several million for premium selections.
The food menu leans toward international bar bites and light meals. We tested several items across our visits. Prices range from IDR 90,000++ for simple items like fries or spring rolls to IDR 280,000++ for mains like steaks or pasta. Indonesian options include satay platters and local favorites, priced around IDR 120,000-180,000++.
Our team's main criticism regarding pricing centers on portion sizes relative to cost. During our Wednesday visit, we ordered the Wagyu Katsu Sando (IDR 180,000++). It arrived as a small sandwich cut into triangles, maybe four bites total, which felt skimpy given the price. The Indonesian satay platter (IDR 150,000++) came with 8 sticks, which seemed reasonable. The duck "Penyet" sliders (IDR 135,000++) delivered three small sliders that were tasty but gone in moments.
For comparison, you could eat more substantial portions at restaurants in Senopati or SCBD for similar or lower prices. La Vue's food is good but not exceptional enough to justify the premium if you're hungry. Think of it as drinking venue with food available rather than a dining destination.
The venue offers promotions that improve value significantly. Their afternoon free-flow sparkling wine deal (IDR 388,000++ per person for 2 hours, 3-6 PM daily) is genuinely good value if you enjoy bubbly. We tried it during our Sunday visit and found the Prosecco quality decent and the pour generous. They also occasionally run cocktail happy hours and special event pricing, though information about these promotions requires following their social media or asking staff.
Welcome and Security ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
First impressions matter, and La Vue generally makes good ones. From our very first visit, the staff struck us as genuinely welcoming rather than going through the motions. The host at the rooftop entrance greeted us with a smile, asked about our reservation status, and guided us to available seating when we arrived early without booking.
Security at The Hermitage hotel entrance is thorough but professional. Guards check vehicle undercarriages and may ask to inspect larger bags, but the process is quick and respectful. We never felt hassled or treated with suspicion.
Once at La Vue itself, there's minimal visible security presence beyond the normal hotel staff. This contributes to the relaxed, intimate atmosphere. We never witnessed any incidents requiring security intervention during our five visits, though we're sure staff would handle issues discreetly if they arose.
Dress code enforcement, as mentioned earlier, seems minimal. The smart casual guideline exists, but we didn't observe anyone being turned away for attire during our visits. Guests self-selected into appropriate clothing, possibly because the upscale hotel setting and pricing naturally filter the crowd.
One small criticism: during our busiest visit (Friday at 7 PM), the entrance area felt slightly chaotic as multiple groups arrived simultaneously. The single host managing seating, greetings, and reservation checks looked overwhelmed for about 15 minutes. Additional staffing during peak hours would smooth this bottleneck.
Inclusions ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
La Vue keeps inclusions straightforward. If you're sitting in minimum spend areas, your food and beverage purchases count toward the minimum. That's standard and expected. No hidden fees or surprise charges appeared on our bills during any visit.
For those booking premium seating on busy nights, the inclusion is essentially guaranteed access to the best spots with optimal views and comfortable furniture. You're paying for location and comfort rather than freebies.
The venue doesn't offer elaborate VIP packages or bottle service with sparklers and fanfare like larger nightclubs. The vibe here is too intimate and sophisticated for that kind of theatrics, which suits the target audience but may disappoint those seeking flashy experiences.
One nice touch: complimentary drinking water is readily available. Staff regularly refill water glasses without being asked, which we appreciated. Bar snacks like nuts aren't provided free but weren't missed given the food menu's availability.
During our Sunday afternoon visit for the sparkling wine promotion, the "free flow" was genuinely free-flowing. Our server checked on us frequently, offering refills without making us flag her down. This attentiveness enhanced the value significantly.
Service ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
Service quality consistently impressed us across all visits. The staff at La Vue demonstrate genuine hospitality rather than scripted professionalism. We encountered numerous team members over our five visits, and nearly all were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable.
During our first visit, our server Samuel took time to explain the cocktail menu, making recommendations based on our preferences. When we mentioned we were from out of town and unfamiliar with the venue, he pointed out the best photo spots and suggested optimal sunset timing. This level of personalized attention recurred throughout our visits.
Language skills were strong. All staff members we interacted with spoke excellent English, which matters significantly for international visitors. They also seemed fluent in Bahasa Indonesia, obviously, and handled multilingual groups smoothly.
Attentiveness to detail impressed us. Glasses were refreshed regularly, ashtrays changed frequently, and staff checked on our satisfaction multiple times without being intrusive. During our Thursday visit, our server Ilham noticed we seemed interested in trying multiple cocktails and suggested we start with half-sized pours of two different drinks to help us decide. This kind of thoughtful service makes a difference.
Food service timing was generally good but not perfect. On our Friday visit during peak hours, appetizers arrived within 15 minutes, which seemed reasonable. However, during that same visit, our mains took nearly 40 minutes to arrive, and we noticed other tables experiencing similar delays. A couple at the next table complained to their server, who apologized and explained the kitchen was backed up. The server's response was professional and he offered complimentary drinks while they waited, which was a nice recovery.
Cocktail preparation at the bar was skilled. We observed bartenders carefully measuring, garnishing with care, and presenting drinks attractively. However, we noticed inconsistency in execution across different shifts. A Pineapple Gin Fizz we ordered on Wednesday was perfectly balanced and refreshing. The same drink on Saturday was noticeably weaker, tasting watered down. This suggests drink recipes may not be standardized across all staff.
One negative note: during our Sunday afternoon visit, which was quieter, service became almost too attentive. Our server hovered nearby constantly, refilling our glasses the moment we took a sip, asking if everything was okay every five minutes. While well-intentioned, it felt slightly suffocating and prevented us from relaxing into a natural rhythm.
Entertainment ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
Entertainment at La Vue is intentionally understated, matching the intimate, sophisticated vibe. Don't expect massive production value, celebrity DJs, or elaborate shows. What you get is curated background music and occasional live entertainment designed to enhance rather than dominate the atmosphere.
According to their Instagram, La Vue features live DJs on Wednesdays and Fridays, and live music on Thursdays and Saturdays. During our Wednesday visit, a DJ played from around 7 PM onward, spinning a mix of deep house, lounge, and chill electronic music. The volume was kept tasteful, loud enough to create ambiance but quiet enough for conversation. The music selection was mature and sophisticated, skewing toward guests in their late 20s to 40s rather than younger party crowds.
Our Thursday live music experience was mixed. An acoustic duo performed covers of popular Western and Indonesian songs starting around 7:30 PM. The musicianship was solid, the song selection safe and pleasant. However, the volume created problems. For the first 30 minutes, it was perfect, but as the evening progressed, the performers gradually turned up their amplification. By 9 PM, conversation at our table required raised voices, which frustrated several nearby guests. We watched one couple motion to their server and request to move further from the stage area.
Our Friday DJ experience was more successful. The DJ, stationed at a small booth near the bar, played a smooth selection of nu-disco, funk, and soul that matched the sunset-to-evening progression beautifully. Multiple guests we spoke with complimented the music, and we noticed people swaying gently in their seats. One American expat told us, "This is perfect dinner party music. I wish they bottled this vibe."
Saturday's live music featured a solo guitarist/singer doing jazzy interpretations of standards and pop songs. This worked well. The performer was skilled, the volume remained reasonable, and the music elevated the sophisticated atmosphere without overwhelming it.
On nights without live entertainment, the venue plays curated playlists through their sound system. During our Sunday afternoon visit, the music was an eclectic mix ranging from Michael Learns to Rock to Linkin Park, which felt somewhat random and occasionally jarring. One moment you're in romantic old-school pop territory, the next you're hearing nu-metal. We found this inconsistency odd, given the venue's otherwise cohesive aesthetic.
The lack of entertainment beyond music doesn't feel like a gap. La Vue isn't trying to be a nightclub or concert venue. The view is the main attraction, and the entertainment exists to complement rather than compete with it.
Food and Drink Quality ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
Food and drink quality at La Vue is solid without reaching extraordinary heights. Let's break this down by category.
Cocktails: Generally well-executed with quality spirits and fresh ingredients. We tested eight different cocktails across our visits. Standouts included the signature La Vue Sunset (IDR 145,000++), a gin-based drink with passion fruit, elderflower, and prosecco that perfectly captured the venue's vibe. The Pineapple Gin Fizz (IDR 130,000++) was refreshing and well-balanced when made correctly (see service section for inconsistency notes). A classic Old Fashioned (IDR 135,000++) was competently made, though we noted they use bourbon rather than rye, which disappointed one cocktail purist on our team.
Presentation was consistently attractive. Drinks arrived with proper garnishes, clear ice, and attention to detail. Nothing arrived sloppy or haphazard.
Our only significant cocktail complaint centered on sweetness levels. Several drinks skewed sweeter than optimal, perhaps catering to local preferences. The drinks menu could benefit from clearer indicators about sugar content and willingness to adjust sweetness upon request.
Beer and Wine: Standard selections without surprises. Local beers like Bintang were properly cold. Imported beers included common Indonesian options like Corona, Heineken, and Asahi. The wine list is adequate but not extensive. We tried a glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc (IDR 145,000++) which was perfectly acceptable if unremarkable.
Food: This is where La Vue shows both promise and limitations. The kitchen clearly has skills but seems hampered by small portions and occasional execution inconsistencies.
Pizza was a highlight. We tried the Salami Pizza (IDR 165,000++) during our Saturday visit and found it genuinely excellent. The crust was thin and crispy, the toppings generous and flavorful, the cheese quality good. Several guests we interviewed also praised the pizza. One couple we spoke with said they've returned specifically for the pizza multiple times.
Indonesian options showed mixed results. The satay platter we ordered on Wednesday (IDR 150,000++) featured chicken and beef satay with peanut sauce, ketupat (compressed rice cakes), and pickled vegetables. The satay was well-grilled with good char, though the peanut sauce leaned too sweet for our team's collective taste. Portion was reasonable with 8 sticks total.
The duck "Penyet" sliders (IDR 135,000++) we tried Friday were creative and tasty. The duck was flavorful and properly cooked, the sambal had nice heat, and the presentation was attractive. However, three small sliders barely constituted a substantial snack, let alone a shared plate.
The Wagyu Katsu Sando mentioned earlier in pricing was delicious but tiny. The wagyu was tender, the breading crispy, the accompaniments well-chosen, but the portion was laughably small. One team member joked it was "Instagram portion sizing," meaning it photographed better than it satisfied hunger.
We also tested the Singapore Fried Rice (IDR 120,000++) which was competent but forgettable. Serviceable if you need carbs, but nothing special.
Appetizers like spring rolls and fried calamari were consistently good if unremarkable. Quality was above average bar food without reaching restaurant standards.
Overall, food at La Vue is best approached as accompaniment to drinks rather than the main event. Order strategically, focus on the items that shine (pizza, satay), and manage expectations around portion sizes.
Sound Quality & Music Genre ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
La Vue's sound system is high quality without being overwhelming. The setup appears to be a distributed speaker system around the rooftop rather than massive speakers in one location, which creates even sound coverage without dead zones or blasting specific areas.
Sound clarity is excellent. During DJ sets, we could distinguish individual instruments and layers in tracks. Bass was present but controlled, never becoming muddy or overwhelming. This matters significantly in a rooftop setting where sound can easily become distorted or echo strangely.
Volume levels during DJ sets and recorded music were consistently appropriate for the venue type. We could converse normally without shouting while still feeling the music's presence and energy. This balance is difficult to achieve and La Vue mostly succeeds.
The live music volume issues mentioned in the entertainment section are less about the sound system and more about amplification choices by performers and sound engineers. The system itself has the capability for proper volume control; the human element sometimes gets it wrong.
Music genre programming leans sophisticated and mature. On DJ nights, expect deep house, nu-disco, lounge, and chill electronic music rather than EDM or mainstream pop. Live music centers on acoustic covers, jazz standards, and mellow interpretations of popular songs. The overall aesthetic skews 30+ rather than young party crowd.
This programming suits the venue perfectly. We spoke with multiple guests who specifically appreciated not having to shout over pounding bass or endure top-40 remixes. One Australian couple in their early 40s told us, "We're too old for the clubs in SCBD. This is exactly our speed."
However, the curated playlist on non-entertainment nights needs work. The genre jumps feel random and occasionally kill the mood. Moving from smooth bossa nova to hard rock creates whiplash that doesn't serve the venue's atmosphere.
Ambiance & Crowd ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
Ambiance is La Vue's second-strongest category after location. The combination of stunning views, intimate scale, tasteful design, and sophisticated lighting creates an atmosphere that feels special without trying too hard.
The 360-degree panoramic view is genuinely spectacular, especially during that golden hour transition from sunset to city lights. We watched the sky paint itself in shades of orange, pink, and purple while Jakarta's towers began glowing against the darkening horizon. Multiple guests we interviewed cited the view as their primary reason for choosing La Vue. One Indonesian woman celebrating her birthday told us, "I wanted somewhere that felt romantic and special without being stuffy. This is perfect."
Interior design keeps things elegant and understated. The furniture is contemporary and comfortable without following overly trendy aesthetics that will feel dated in a year. Neutral color palettes with pops of greenery create a refined look. The bar itself, with its backlit shelving and sleek lines, serves as an attractive focal point.
Lighting deserves special mention. During daylight and sunset, the space relies on natural light and stays bright and open. As darkness falls, carefully placed mood lighting kicks in, washing walls in warm tones and creating intimate pools of light at each seating area. String lights add a touch of romance without becoming kitschy. The lighting design transitions smoothly with the evening's progression, never suddenly jumping from bright to dark or vice versa.
The rooftop pool on the lower level adds visual interest and reflects lights beautifully at night, though non-hotel guests can't use it. Still, it enhances the overall aesthetic.
Capacity limitations create both benefits and frustrations. On positive side, the smaller scale prevents that overcrowded, sardine-tin feeling you get at many popular rooftop venues. Even when La Vue was full during our Friday visit, it never felt claustrophobic or chaotic. Conversations flowed easily, people could move around without constantly squeezing past others, and the atmosphere remained relaxed.
On the negative side, this limited capacity means booking ahead is essential and walk-ins often face rejection. We watched multiple disappointed groups turned away during our peak-time visits. One couple from Australia were particularly frustrated, having walked over from their nearby hotel expecting to grab sunset drinks without a reservation.
The crowd skews mature, sophisticated, and international. Our observations across five visits consistently showed guests in their late 20s through 50s, with a healthy mix of Indonesian locals, expats living in Jakarta, and international tourists. Dress codes leaned smart casual to upscale casual. We saw very few guests under 25 and none who appeared college-aged.
The atmosphere is date-friendly and couple-heavy, especially on Friday and Saturday evenings. During our Friday visit, roughly 60% of guests were couples, 30% were small friend groups, and 10% were larger celebrations or business gatherings. The intimate setting and romantic lighting make La Vue an obvious choice for anniversaries, proposals, and special occasions.
Energy levels remain mellow to moderate. This isn't a party venue where people are dancing on tables or getting rowdy. Conversations stay at reasonable volumes, laughter is frequent but not raucous, and the overall vibe is sophisticated social gathering rather than wild night out. If you're seeking high-energy party atmosphere, look elsewhere.
One aspect we appreciated: the crowd's international nature meant English was widely spoken, making it comfortable for foreign visitors. We heard conversations in English, Bahasa Indonesia, Mandarin, and various other languages, creating a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Smoking is permitted on the rooftop, which is a significant consideration. Indonesia has very different smoking norms than Western countries, and many venues allow smoking freely. La Vue is no exception. During all our visits, numerous guests smoked cigarettes throughout the evening. While the open-air setting helps disperse smoke better than enclosed spaces, it's still noticeable and occasionally bothersome, especially if you're seated downwind. Non-smokers should be aware of this reality. One couple we interviewed from California, where smoking bans are strict, were visibly bothered by the smoke and left earlier than planned.
Payment Options ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Payment flexibility at La Vue is excellent and modern. The venue accepts cash (Indonesian Rupiah), credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), and QRIS mobile payments through Indonesian apps like GoPay, OVO, and Dana.
During our five visits, we tested multiple payment methods. Credit card transactions processed smoothly with modern wireless terminals brought tableside. The 21% tax and service charge is clearly itemized on bills, preventing surprise sticker shock.
QRIS payments, increasingly popular in Indonesia, worked flawlessly when we tested them. For foreign visitors, this option requires having an Indonesian bank account or e-wallet, which may not be practical unless you're spending extended time in the country.
Bills arrive promptly when requested. On busier nights, it took 5-10 minutes from request to payment completion, which is reasonable. On quieter nights, the process was faster.
The venue doesn't add hidden charges or surprise fees. What you see itemized on your menu is what you pay, plus the clearly stated 21% tax and service. This transparency is appreciated and eliminates the unpleasant surprise of inflated bills that plague some upscale venues.
